Emotional Intelligence also known as EQ – Emotional Quotient, was first proposed as a theory in the field of psychology during the 1980’s.  The concept gained momentum rapidly and was popularised in Daniel Goleman’s 1995 groundbreaking book, ‘Emotional Intelligence: Why it can Matter more that IQ’. (Wicks, et.al, 2014)

Whilst several models of emotional intelligence emerged,  Goleman’s model, based on skills and competencies, created a workable blueprint that directly improved personal skills in relationship management, self-awareness and self-management. Ancient Wisdom for Today’s Business World

Aristotle first scribed the text ‘Rhetoric’ in the 4th Century BC.  This ancient philosophy outlines the system of persuasion through the use of language, and is still considered today as “the most important single work on persuasion ever written.” (James L. Golden)
