Emotional Intelligence also known as EQ – Emotional Quotient, was first proposed as a theory in the field of psychology during the 1980’s.  The concept gained momentum rapidly and was popularised in Daniel Goleman’s 1995 groundbreaking book, ‘Emotional Intelligence: Why it can Matter more that IQ’. (Wicks, et.al, 2014)

Whilst several models of emotional intelligence emerged,  Goleman’s model, based on skills and competencies, created a workable blueprint that directly improved personal skills in relationship management, self-awareness and self-management.
